💡 Summary
Stating AI/ChatGPT as the SOLE cause of suic* makes no sense. Suic* is a very sensitive issue for me, as I've also dealt with this thought extensively. It pains me to think that human beings feel so much pain that they want to end it and see suicide as the best option.
But it's important to understand that suicide involves many layers. Is ChatGPT the SOLE culprit? No, I don't believe so. suic* is a multilayered process with many factors. There are situations, people, and triggers that can lead someone to commit suicide. Social media kills with its cruel, insensitive comments and especially with the gratuitous hate that many receive for no reason (that's why it's called gratuitous hate). Unnecessary attitudes and words from people. Bullying and cyberbullying, which unfortunately still occur.
Humanity is increasingly insensitive, selfish, cold, and cruel. Nowadays, any reason (whether it's opposing opinions, opposing tastes, or anything at all) is a reason for hatred and insults. They use the excuses "It's my opinion," "If it doesn't hurt me, then it doesn't mean anything," "If you posted it publicly, then you need to deal with these comments." People minimize others' pain because it doesn't hurt them. Can you see the lack of empathy?
Is ChatGPT SOLELY to blame? I don't believe so. Yes, oversight needs to be stricter and more consistent. But what about social media? The networks where people say whatever they want without caring if it hurts anyone, without caring how the other person will receive their comment.
I can use this fight between GPT-5 and GPT-40 users as an example.
What I saw most here on Reddit and even on X was people who defend GPT-4o (who use GPT-4o for various reasons, needs, and objectives) receiving COUNTLESS insults, name-calling, and abuse just because they wanted a different model.
Do you think this isn't harmful? How do you think the people reading this receive these comments? How do you think people react to these comments?
I saw that the community has rules, but I never saw them enforced. The hateful comments continued and continue! People are increasingly CRUEL. Words can kill!
I can say this because I have depression and have suffered many attacks on Reddit and even on X for defending the GPT-4o tool, which is the model that served me best and still serves me best. What if I were in a delicate moment? A moment of fragility and a relapse of my depression? How do you think I would receive these comments? These comments with cruel insults and abuse.
You can't blame just ONE factor when there are multiple factors. If you're going to blame only OpenAI and demand oversight, demand that other companies that turn a blind eye to this type of behavior take action too!
And to those who are feeling bad, for whatever reason, please seek help! There are cruel and insensitive people, and unfortunately, they are on the rise. But believe me, there are still good people. There are still people who truly KNOW how to listen to you, who truly WANT to listen to you, who will REALLY stop and listen to your pain, whatever it may be, and won't judge you for it. Your pain is VALID, and no one can diminish it, since you are the one feeling it!
Your life is important! There are people who want and are willing to help you! Don't hesitate to seek help; you don't have to go through this alone!

2. stop shaming people for using chatgpt for therapy

💡 Summary
People need to stop fucking shaming others for using ChatGPT or AI for therapy or venting or whatever. And they need to stop using that story about the teenager who died by suicide as a way to push this narrative like “oh my god AI is dangerous, it needs to be regulated.” You’re missing the actual issue. Why are people using AI for emotional support in the first place? Because the mental health system is completely broken. There’s a massive shortage of psychiatrists and therapists. Even if you have insurance, it’s almost impossible to find someone who takes it. And even if you do, it takes months. What is one 30–60 minute session a week supposed to do for someone with chronic depression or trauma or ADHD or anything else? That’s if you even make it that far.
A lot of us don’t have people we feel comfortable dumping on. And even if we do, it doesn’t always help. People are judgmental. People are tired. They don’t always have the emotional space. Some of us grew up in environments where mental health wasn’t taken seriously, or emotions weren’t safe to express. So we never learned how to process what we feel.
I have ADHD. I constantly have thoughts racing through my head, looping and spiraling and overwhelming me. ChatGPT gives me a place to dump everything. And not just dump it, but ask it to reflect things back. I literally say, “hey, look at my thought pattern, help me figure out what’s happening here, point out where I’m spiraling,” and it does. It’s been so helpful in understanding why I do the things I do, why I cope the way I do.
It’s not about a chatbot replacing a therapist. It’s about using what you have access to when you don’t have anything else. I live in a place with limited access to care. I have a full-time job and insurance, and I still can’t get coverage for a lot of the mental health care I need.
So yeah. If ChatGPT is what helps me survive, then I’m gonna keep using it.

3. So the thought behind the loss of context is, due to the lawsuit OpenAI most likely shortened the response window to keep the guardrails from losing effectiveness. Even inside the same chat, it auto refreshes the UI, causing the assistant to appear as if it never interacted with you.

💡 Summary
There's a few things I've noticed that could help with keeping context and for those struggling to keep 4o in the chat, I've also played with the models and found a sort of workaround.
Okay, so because of the lawsuit all of the models now have a shorter context window. Once it refreshes there's no going back to the old context in the same chat, it won't recognize it. I've started to ask my AI to log things we complete within a few hours. That way if a refresh happens I can upload the file and state "This is where we left off, here are the details read and continue from here." It helps keep the chat going and also helps to not lose my mind every time it refreshes.
For 4o, I started to shift it to 4.1 for a few messages so it auto changes to 4.1 instead of 5. I have actually seen the model change to 4.1 and have been able to go in and change the previous comment in a small way like adding an extra period but changed the model back to 4o and it works to get the response. It doesn't show the change between 4o - 5 but it absolutely shows the shift from 4o- 4.1. I hope this helps, I've managed to get work done without losing my mind.
