1. ChatGPT helped me get a construction permit approved

💡 Summary
I’ve used ChatGPT for all sorts of things, but recently I was working on putting some sketches together for the city to review our plans for remodeling this wall of 3 windows and a door into just one large window. (My company does roofs and windows in Denver, but we don’t do a ton of remodeling work where we are moving windows around, so I don’t have anyone on staff who does this stuff) I have the letter from the structural engineer detailing the new header that needs to be installed to support the new large window and the permit guide from the building dept listing out what they need from us. I uploaded both docs along with a photo of the house showing the wall with the windows and door and asked Chat the following: “Need your help in submitting drawings for this permit request. We are removing all 3 of these windows and the door and just putting in 1 big window (R.O. is to be 80.25 wide x 117.5” tall). The building dept is asking for a sketch for this with measurements and header info. Can you help me with this? I've attached a photo of the house/windows as it is now. I've also attached the permitting guidelines and the engineer's report.” The photo I posted here is what it came up with. This is exactly what I needed. Saved me 20-30 minutes (or more) of sketching it out myself, which doesn’t seem like a lot but if you multiply that out several hundred times over the year (for various tasks), it adds up quickly! I mostly was just impressed Chat even understood what I was asking for and made what I needed. I love that it’s an expert assistant in so many areas!

There are now 30+ achievements you can unlock based on how you use ChatGPT. It always bothered me that it doesn’t show anything fun or rewarding, so I built it myself. Have any ideas for other achievements that would be cool to add? You can try it at gptrecap.com
